Job Readiness and Career Training Programs
Career Readiness for 9th & 10th Graders
For 9th and 10th graders, WIN Fridays focuses on foundational career skills to help students start thinking about their futures. Through interactive lessons and activities, students gain:
✅ Job Search & Work Readiness Skills – Learn how to create a resume, prepare for interviews, and understand workplace expectations.
✅ Communication & Leadership Development – Build confidence, teamwork skills, and the ability to express ideas effectively.
✅ Career Competency Training – Get an introduction to different career paths and what it takes to succeed in each.
Career Training for 11th & 12th Graders
As students move into 11th and 12th grade, WIN Fridays offers specialized career training tracks, allowing them to gain real-world experience and industry-recognized certifications. Students can choose from a variety of tracks, including:
✅ Entrepreneurship – Learn the fundamentals of starting and managing a business.
✅ Healthcare – Explore careers in EKG, CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant), and more.
✅ IT & AI Bootcamp – Dive into the world of technology, artificial intelligence, and coding.
✅ Security Guard Training – Earn a Security Guard Card for immediate employment opportunities.
✅ Serve Safe Food Handling – Get certified for careers in the food service industry.
✅ Cosmetology – Develop skills in hair, beauty, and personal care services.
✅ Post-Secondary Education Prep – Receive guidance on college applications, financial aid, and career planning.

Weaver Community School – Career Exploration and Training Program
At Blue Hills Civic Association, we are proud to be a part of the Weaver Community School Program, bringing meaningful programs and opportunities to students, families, and the North Hartford community. Our programming at Weaver High School is designed to support students academically, socially, and professionally while also providing resources for parents.
Summer Youth Employment and Learning Program
The program provides paid internships at companies and organizations across Greater Hartford, giving participants the chance to gain invaluable experience while earning an income. Interns will complete a 120-hour internship over the course of five weeks, from early July to mid-August. The internships are designed to help youth develop key career competencies and gain practical work experience in their field of interest.
