Strong communities are built on trust, collaboration, relationships, and shared goals. That’s why our Community Organizing & Outreach department is dedicated to bringing people together, amplifying voices, and creating lasting change in Blue Hills and beyond.
Our team works hand-in-hand with residents, local leaders, and organizations to address issues in our community. Through outreach efforts and grassroots community organizing, we focus on creating spaces where everyone feels heard, valued, and empowered to take action.
Community and youth Organizing
Weaver Career Competency Training
The Career Competency Training is designed to impact 9th-10th graders a Weaver High School. This comprehensive Career Competency program is designed to equip youth with essential skills for successful careers. This program focuses on developing both career competencies and life skills through a combination of classroom instructions and activities.
Mental Health B2M
This program will provide training for BHCA staff and community members through programs like Mental Health First Aid this
will significantly increase access to quality, culturally relevant mental healthcare services for Black men and boys.
YO4SJ Youth Organizing 4 Social Justice(YO4SJ) is a leadership group for high school students throughout the Greater Hartford area. We are currently organizing in our schools around issues that directly contribute to educational inequity and juvenile injustice(public safety).
Summer Youth Employment Learning Program (SYELP) Each year the organizing and outreach staff conduct a five weeks classroom and community summer program. The comprehensive curriculum is designed to teach critical thinking, leadership skills, team building, problem solving, public speaking, civics and other skills to prepare youth for success.

Environmental Justice
BHCA, in partnership with DEEP, will be engage residents in Hartford’s North End to address flooding issues caused by combined sewer overflows, sanitary sewer overflows, and environmental justice concerns. Through these community-driven activities, we aim to listen to residents, collaborate on solutions, and work together to create lasting change.
Community Partnership Initiative (CPI-Eversource)
Through the Community Partnership Initiative, BHCA and Eversource seeks to reach residents and businesses with energy efficiency offers in support of efforts by Eversource to achieve a broader reach of energy efficiency engagement and program participation across the City of Hartford.
Community Safety Engagement
This new initiative is designed to creating a space where there is open dialogue with local law enforcement. The goal is to build stronger relationships, encourage better understanding, and work hand-in-hand to make our neighborhoods safer. By opening up communication and fostering collaboration.
Community Outreach & Engagement
A transformative program designed to teach participants how to harness the power of community resources, build strong leadership teams, and create sustainable strategies for social change. This program offers a unique opportunity to train new community leaders to impact system change.
