USA Track & Field’s Youth Indoor Track & Field program provides young athletes a competitive opportunity to remain active and tune-up during the winter months. It is also a great component to our already successful Junior Olympic program which currently includes outdoor Track and Field and Cross Country. Competition takes place in six two-year age divisions, with athletes generally falling between the ages of 7 and 18.
Capital City Track Club traveled to Landover MD and competed at the 2013 National Youth Indoor Track & Field Championships. The two day competition saw record breaking performances from two member of the team.
After finishing 2nd in the 9-10 year old 55m dash, Malcolm Beckford set an indoor meet record of 27.07 in winning the 200m race. Equally impressive was Mark Doyley record setting win in the 15-16 age group 200m with a time of 22.74. Mark also took 3rd in the 55m dash earlier in the day.
Other award winners included teammates Jhan Spears 2nd place in the 13-14 year old girls shot put. Z’niah Hutchinson-Corea took home medals in the 11-12 girls 400m dash 3rd place, Long Jump (5th) and 5th place in the 800m run. Anasha Archer was 5th in the 15-16 girls Shot Put. Also competing at the National Championships were CCTC members Christal Gilling (9-10 girls 200m) and Norjae Brown (11-12 boys shot put).
