Prep for Success: The program boasts a series of motivational and informational activities designed to help youth and their parents prepare for life success, at an early age. These sessions cover a range of topics, including personal development, college search and application process, academic success, financial-aid, workplace etiquette and student-athlete balance. These activities include visits by former Hartford High School athletes who currently attend area colleges and universities, are visiting during a school break or have graduated and relocated to Hartford.
Mentorship: Mentorship has proven to be a successful intervention technique in the lives of inner-city youth. Capital City Track Club uses it network of former Hartford student-athletes, many of whom are currently attending post-secondary institutions or have already obtained their degree, to provide role models for current student athletes. Through guided sessions, one-on-one interactions and discussion groups, younger student-athletes are exposed to adults who have overcome barriers similar to the ones they are currently facing and gain valuable life skills from adults to whom they can relate.
